Exhibition Dates: October 25th through January 20, 2009

Meet the Artists Free Reception: Sunday, October 25th from 3:00 – 5:00PM

The L.A. Story exhibition, featuring Los Angeles Jewish artists, opens October 25th at American Jewish University’s Platt and Borstein Galleries at 15600 Mulholland Drive in Bel Air.  The public is invited to meet the artists at the free opening reception on Sunday, October 25, 2009 from 3 to 5 pm.  Gallery hours are Sunday through Thursday, 10 am to 4 pm and Friday 10 to 2 pm through January 20, 2010.

Today there is the belief that the center of gravity of Jewish American art has shifted from New York to Los Angeles.  This exhibition, first shown at Hebrew Union College in New York City, lends credibility to that belief.  The L.A. Story investigates the impact of place and the search for artistic community on the creativity of artists who share a religious, cultural and spiritual heritage.  The Platt and Borstein Galleries are proud to be the West Coast venue for this traveling exhibition.

The selection of work is from ten contemporary Los Angeles Jewish artists: Bill Aron, Pat Berger, Tony Berlant, Joyce Dallal, Sam Erenberg, Bonita Helmer, Victor Raphael, Elena Mary Siff, Ruth Weisberg, and Eugene Yelchin.  Working in diverse styles, their media includes drawing, oil painting, metal collage, photography and digital manipulation.
